There are a number of 3D printers and technologies that 3D LifePrints uses in order to manufacture it’s range of products offered. These cover the major technologies used, which includes Selective Laser Sintering (SLS), Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS), Sterolithography (SLA), Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM or FFF) and Multi-jet modelling.
We use best of breed 3D printers that enable us to work with a range of materials and colours to meet all of our client’s requirements.
3D LifePrint’s works with both commercial and in-house made 3D printing materials in order to create anatomical models, surgical guides, prosthetics and implants. Clients are given a range of material options to suit their needs:
- Materials that range from being very rigid through to very flexible
- Materials that are extremely durable
- Silicones that mimic the texture of human tissues and organs and can be cut.
- Differing shore hardness parameters
- Materals that can be sterilised
- Materials that can mimic bone
- Materials that can be used for both facial and limb prosthetics
- Materials that are medically certified (FDA) for skin contact and are anti-toxic, anti-allergenic with anti-microbial properties
- A wide variety of colours (with ability to have models in multi-colour) including transparent
- Materials that can be used for in-body implantation
Our processes start with isolating specific density values from the DICOM images on CT or MRI scans to segment and render areas of contrasted blood, bone, soft tissue and air. Once these values are separated, they are rendered from 2D pixels to 3D voxels which build up a three dimensional representation, faithful to the scan. These models can then be virtually manipulated and sliced, to focus on key areas prior to printing in the chosen filament and method. From the the grey-scale units on CT or MRI scan imaging, to accurate, 3D, patient specific models, we bring surgeons, clinicians and researchers open, accurate models that enable better choices to be made.
