PRE-SURGICAL ASSESSMENT & PLANNING
These patient specific 3D printed anatomical models are used by surgeons in preparation for surgery. Being able to visualise the structures in a 3D and physical manner can decrease the amount of planning done in theatre and therefore reduce the time patients are under anesthetic.
IMPROVING DOCTOR-PATIENT COMMUNICATIONS
3D printed models help doctors communicate with patients or their family members so they can better understand what is about to happen to them, thereby assisting in the surgical consent process and providing a sense of understanding and calm ahead of the procedure.
PRE-SURGICAL ASSESSMENT & PLANNING FOR RAPID TRAUMA CASES
The ability to use 3D printed anatomical models for rapid assessment for trauma cases has traditionally been limited by the capabilities of 3D hardware to manufacture the required models in a turnaround time of typically less than 48 hours. 3D LifePrints has recently provided a number of 3D models for use in trauma assessment, the time taken from receiving of the image data to finished product has been within the time frames necessary for the surgeons to make rapid assessments. The picture shows an Impact fracture on the lower tibia which resulted in bone fragmentation. The 3D physical reconstruction was made with removal supports to allow the bone fragments to effectively re-aligned.
3D models produced in specific materials may be medically sterilised and brought into the operating theatre to be used for guidance. The added benefits include having an unparalleled reference tool which can lead to reduced theatre time and operational cost savings.
