3D print of child with scaphocephaly skull 1

We were recently asked to print the skull of a child with scaphocephaly which is an elongation of a child’s skull caused by the premature fusion of the skull bones. In some cases this can be cured with the child wearing a cranial remolding orthosis – a shaped helmet but in this case surgery was needed. The surgeon Chris Parks of Alder Hey Hospital said, “The model is principally used in order to explain the surgery to parents. The model shows the bone cuts and [allows the parents to] appreciate the magnitude of the surgery. It is easier to show the model than to explain [verbally]”
